Mrs MLG Paints Vengorian Court Soulblight Gravelords
Share
I have never painted an army before, but under the persuasion of Mr MLG I am taking on the Vengorian Court Battleforce (https://www.mightylancergames.co.uk/products/vengorian-court-battleforce-warhammer-aos)
This bumper boxed set has Lauka Vai, Mother of Nightmares, 5 noble Blood Knights, 3 swooping Fell Bats, a prowling pack of 10 Dire Wolves and of course a core of 20 Deathrattle Skeletons. I like undead models and even though this will be a challenge I was hoping it would be a fun challenge.
I started with the Fell Bats ( HERE & HERE you can find a Youtube video of me building and painting them) and if you have ever watched any of our Twitch streams you will know that Brown is not my favourite colour, but brown they are.
After the Fell Bats I attempted the Dire Wolves, the detail on these miniatures is wonderful with exposed rib cages, tree branches piercing skin and even a bird tucking into a dire wolf while it stalks along. The poses are also beautiful.
Again you can see my Youtube video HERE
On a side note I have discovered that my new phone camera pales in comparison to my old phone which is very annoying.
Next on the list was the Death Rattle Skeletons, these a very fiddly and at many points I thought I would snap a leg bone or spear but thankfully I did not, but I did leave most of the shields off the minis once I realised that it would be very hard to paint behind them once built completely. Mr MLG really cannot get his head around part building miniatures and says that "if you cannot reach a part just paint it black and say it is shadow", do you agree or do you leave some parts off and paint them before assembly?
Anyway, I went for a basic red paint scheme with blue shields and silver armour. For the Death Rattle Skeletons I used the following paints:-
Citadel Ushabti Bone
Citadel Khorne Red
Reaper Winter Blue
Reaper Sepia Wash
Reaper Primer Black
Vallejo Silver
Vallejo Flat Earth
I do need to build and paint 10 more deathrattle skeletons and I will keep to this colour scheme for them all, they also all have the basing Kodama Woods by Krautcover
As this is the first ever army I have built it is a little daunting and I am taking it slowly so I do not get bored painting the same thing over and over again, thankfully they are all such wonderful sculpts and full of character that they are still interesting despite being 20 armoured skeletons. I do still have the rest of the deathrattle skeletons, blood knights and Lauka Vai Mother of Nightmares to build and paint, I have left these two until last as I am most nervous about these, horses are always a bit eek for me and the majestic Lauka Vai is a detailed larger miniature and I really want to do a good job but the delicate parts and imposing dynamic pose are scary, but they will be done and hopefully there will be an update in the blog on that.
I hope you like what I have done so far.
