Thought Bubble Comic Convention

Thought Bubble Comic Convention held in Harrogate has a wonderful array of stalls, artists and writers, this year Mr & Mrs MLG went for the first time. As you know we, Mighty Lancer Games, stock comics and graphic novels in our Bridlington shop among many other things. Mr MLG is a lover of comics, so when we were invited to attend a retailer event, and as part of that the Thought Bubble Comic Convention, we were very excited.
We were invited to the retailer event by our comic distributor and as part of that invitation had passes for the Thought Bubble Comic Convention two day event. We arrived and visited the convention in the morning, having a quick look round and getting some comics signed by Fabrizio De Tommaso, as you can see from Mr MLGs face he was very excited to meet the artist.
We then went to the table of Werther Dell'Edera and again had a comic signed and a short but lovely conversation with the artist, by this point Mr MLG was very overwhelmed and happy with meeting these wonderful people, getting new comics and their signatures. James Tynion Iv, best known for his work at DC Comics working on Batman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Justice League Dark, as well as the Nice House, Department of Truth and more, is another author that Mr MLG really wanted to see while at the convention (as he has recently been reading Something is Killing the Children - see his Spotlight video here ) but the queue for his table was very long so we decided to come back the next day when we had more time to line up.
We then left the con' and attended the retailer event in which we met some other wonderful comic book shop owners, then, to our surprise we had a few guest speakers and these included a couple of independent publishers with new comics coming out, then Fabrizio De Tommaso came up to give us all some comics and sign them for us so we got to met him twice. Then James Tynion Iv entered the room to talk to us about his up coming projects, presented a slide show and stayed to sign comics. I think at this point Mr MLG was so happy it was like sitting next to a little boy living his best dream.
In the afternoon we enjoyed a few drinks in the bar downstairs with the hosts of the retailer event and the other lovely shop owners chatting about comics, shops and life, then, there was another surprise for us as Jock (best known for his work with 2000AD, Image Comics, Batman, Wolverine and more) came to the bar to talk to us and enjoy the evening. We were told by another owner that Jock was one of the nicest men in comics and we agree he was a pleasure and put up with our silly star struck babbling which finished off the evening wonderfully.
The next day we had the whole day to attend Thought Bubble Comic Convention, walk around taking in all the stalls and sights, we purchased some great items including Christmas presents for Little Miss MLG and of course more comics, chatted to some up and coming artists and people who had self published. We also join the queue for more signatures including Jocks who we were amazed remembered us and even remembered my name!
It is fair to say that we had a lovely time at Thought Bubble Comic Convention and if we were invited again would certainly attend, the guest speakers added to the experience and meeting all the wonderful people and hanging out in a social setting with such names was amazing. It is certainly something Mr MLG will be talking about for a long time to come.
